BGC_hostel Makati : A Hostel Like No other

There was a time in the past when people want to travel and see new places in and out of the country but are hesitant because they worry about the accommodation rates. Those days are gone because of the proliferation of guesthouses and hostels in most of the famous cities and other tourists attractions on the globe.

One good thing about staying in a hostel is it lets you save an ample amount of money and another is, it enables you to intermingle with other like-minded travelers. Which of course leads you to learning some local recommendations, consequently makes your stay extra authentic.

I recently stayed at BGC Hostel Makati. By and large, it is very affordable compared to other hostels around the city. BGC Hostel Makati has all the amenities that are very essential for all the guests. It has private and shared rooms, there’s communal area which allows travelers to meet new interesting people who may turn out to be future friends or travel buddies on their next voyage. Shared kitchen is also available where guests can cook their own food instead of always eating out at the fast food which lets them save a large sum of money. Another very important thing that I noticed was the hostel’s strong wi-fi connection. I managed to write 2 articles for my blog during my stay there.

The staff treats all guests like family. They are very warm and friendly. BGC Hostel Makati’s top priority is providing security and safety to all their guests so they can have a worry free and comfortable experience. The security option of this hostel range from safes behind reception, lockers in the rooms, electronic swipe cards for door rooms, 24-hour security on site and CCTVs recording common areas.

One vital aspect of this hostel is its location. It is near the transport link so the guests enjoy the convenience of getting to various tourist places they are interested in.

The BGC Hostel Makati is approximately 30 meters away from EDSA via Danlig Street, a stone's throw away from Kalayaan Avenue.

PELÍCULA-PELIKULA, the Spanish Film Festival is a 2-week event and known as the biggest Spanish film festival in Asia. It features the best of Spanish and Latin American cinema to the local audience of Manila.

The Festival started the ball rolling last October 5th, with the opening ceremonies at the Ayala Museum in Makati. It will end on the 16th PELÍCULA-PELIKULA is a Spanish Film Festival, an annual event at Greenbelt 3 in Ayala Makati sponsored by Instituto Cervantes.

Pelicula-Pelikula is a blend of the Spanish word “película”, which means film, and its Filipino origin “pelikula”, the cultural ties shared by Spain and the Philippines.

For the duration of the Festival, the audience will be given stubs with which they can rate the movies they have seen. For every five movies, members of the audience qualify to join the raffle where they get a chance to win a round-trip ticket to Spain and other exciting prizes.

Since I want to join the contest and get the chance to win a trip to Spain, I obliged myself to watch a total of 5 films. I watched 3 films on the 6th and 2 more on the 7th.

The movies I watched were as follows:

Plantation Bay

If you travel to Cebu and are looking for an outstanding place where you can chillax, Plantation Bay is the place to be.

It is the kind of resort with a touch of class. The resort offers an amazing service. They got staff with good customer service skills. They are tremendously warm and friendly and always more than willing to help and assist for whatever needs are asked from them. Likewise, they strictly follow a no tipping policy.

I specifically enjoyed their lagoons and swimming pools. They are truly an impeccable spot to laze around, swim and get a tan. The design was artistically done to blend with the scenery. Plantation Bay is a symphony in water. I loved all the 4 freshwater pools of exceptional design. For unlimited frolicking, everyone can enjoy the water-slides which come in all shapes and lengths that can also be thrilling a little scary. Kids can have fun on the mist-caves , volcano fountains; and bubble-benches plus the rainmakers and waterfalls of every size.

Another good thing that the resort can offer is its 5 different available restaurants. Kilimanjaro Kafé features international and Filipino favorites and known for its world-famous breakfast buffet with different culinary themes . Fiji Restaurant got seafood, Japanese, Korean and other Asian cuisine. Palermo is a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant that offers Spanish tapas, steaks and Italian pastas. Savannah Grill is the restaurant which serves fast-food favorites with 5-star flair- the burger and steaks plus the stateside hotdogs literally melt in your mouth.

There are a lot of activities that can be done inside the resort. There’s a high-end-equipped gym for health enthusiasts. There’s also game room which houses 2 billiard tables, air-hockey, foosball, table tennis and computer games. The resort also has other sports activities which include archery, wall-climbing, golf pitch-and-putt, tennis and beach volleyball.

I totally enjoyed my stay at Plantation Bay. The facilities are first class. If you want a nice isolated spot better try this place for a week of two because it is guaranteed that you'll definitely experience peace and relaxation. I love this place... I would recommend it and definitely will come back.

On Being Featured on Smile Magazine

Beijing is a great place to visit because it has several remarkable monuments and well-preserved historic culture where you experience a walk in the past life of ancient people in China. You can submerge yourself so deeply in the culture when you visit the city.

I recently got an email interview from SMILE Magazine. I was asked to share a few things I enjoyed during my trip to Beijing.

The questions were so simple. Name the top three places to visit that tourists shouldn't miss, three things people should know about the city and the best three restaurants to try.

Three places to see that visitors shouldn’t miss.
  • The Great Wall - Majority of the travelers included climbing the Great Wall of China on their bucket list. You can avail a hero’s certificate/medal when you finished the climb.
  • The Forbidden City – It is indisputably extravagant. It is the world's largest palace complex. It's called Forbidden City because it was closed to the outside world for 500 years. You can finally see what's inside.
  • The Summer Palace - It is said to be the best preserved imperial garden in the world, and the largest of its kind.

Three things people should know about Beijing

  • 1. Beijing is considered to be the bicycle capital of the world because there are a lot of parking lots dedicated to bikes alone.

  • 2. Most restaurants in Beijing provide food orders in big serving (family style) and meant to be shared.

  • 3. Beijing hosted the 2008 Olympics games with an official logo “Dancing Beijing”. With 51 gold medals in tow, Chinese athletes won the maximum number of gold medals in 2008 Olympics. D. Did you know? The most common surname in Beijing is Wang, a name shared by 10.35% of the population. So don’t be surprised if you meet a lot of Mr., Ms., and Mrs. Wang in the city.
    Top tree restaurants to try:
  • Taste - the Delights of Yunnan Flavor (best tasting dumplings) Location:82-3 Dongsi Sitiao, Dongcheng District (Workers' Stadium)
  • Din Tai Feng (best siopao in town)
  • Location: 24 Xinyuanxili Zhongjie, Chaoyang District (Workers' Stadium)
  • Oasis Café’. (great coffee, pizza and plus lip-smacking desserts) Location: No.1, Jingshan Front Street, Dongcheng District

A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery

"Hele Sa Hiwagang Hapis" (A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery) is an 8-hour film written and directed by Lav Diaz. The movie theatre provides 20-minute breaks after every 2 hours.

It is a narration of Philippine revolution during 1895, one of the historical landscapes and source of our independence. The film has two stories being told alongside each other.

One story concentrates on Gregoria De Jesus (Hazel Orencio) search for the missing bodies of her husband “the Supremo”: Andres Bonifacio, and his brother Procopio. She was accompanied by 3 acquiantances, one of them is Caesaria Belarmino (Alessandra de Rossi), the woman who brought about the fall of the Katipunan. This is where the story was able to bring the fantasy part which has representations of the Tikbalang (played by Cherie Gil, Angel Aquino and Bernardo Bernardo) . Moreover, a religious cult led by Sebastian Caneo (Ronnie Lazaro) worships the fabled Bernardo Carpio.

The historic part involves the characters from Dr. Jose Rizal’s novels – Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. It is the story that trails the journey of Isagani (John Lloyd Cruz) and Crisostomo Ibarra (Piolo Pascual)  to an isolated zone to have the latter's gunshot wound treated. Ibarra is on the run for initiating revolution in his native motherland. In addition, Basilio (Sid Lucero) is looking for Elias’ missing treasures under the Balete tree.

This is one masterpiece that not only tackles the difficulties and struggles of the Filipino people during their fight for freedom from Spain, but also that of the struggles and quests of the Filipino people in finding what Filipino Freedom is today.

"Hele" is made for the Filipino people. It chants of lullabies bursting with Filipino sentiments and cries for our independence. Spend time to listen. Because no one else will pin their ears back, only us, the Filipinos.

The HIGH LIGHTS at the 7th Pyromusical:2016

The 7th Philippine International Pyromusical Competition is an event which a lot of people in the Manila look forward to every year.

It is an annual spectacular event which brings together the Global pyrotechnique experts where they set the night sky to bright and striking colors.

The event started last February 13 and ended on March 19, 2016. It was total of 7 consecutive Saturdays , from 7:30 to 8:30pm and the venue was from the grounds of the Seaside Boulevard in SM Mall of Asia Complex.

It was a union of artistry and technology which brought a totally visual feast. I watched the closing exhibition last March 19 when the country France competed.

It was an awesome experience seeing the sky being painted with wild and striking colors and with musical accompaniment. I am proud to say that the Platinum Fireworks from the Philippines had successfully thrilled the audience that night. Their firework display was really exceptional.

During the finale, the Philippines Pop Princess, Sarah Geronimo rendered the song “Star Life”.
