I was not really a fan of ballet shows. The first time I was able to watch one was so many years ago and I can’t even recall when. But I remembered it was the story of Peter Pan and the only reason why I was able to watch was because of the free tickets which my big brother got from the office where he used to work for. I watched the show together with my big sister and my big brother. Surprisingly, I had a great time and really enjoyed the performance.

Last Saturday I once again witnessed another ballet act. It was “Giselle”. It is a classical romantic tragedy of loss, forgiveness and love beyond death. It has a familiar plot. – two men in love with Giselle, however she chooses to surrender her heart to Albrecht, the sophisticated gentleman who, as Giselle later finds out, is engaged to be married.

I particularly enjoyed the mad scene, a dance to the death, a chorus of dead women dancing. There were scenes that gave me goosebumps. I definitely noticed the details and control on the dance steps which made me realized it was such a difficult ballet.

I can tell that the dancers had exert effort during the long rehearsals and put their heart and soul into it to better understand and master the art of playing Giselle.

The show was held at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (Main Theater) at the CCP. Truly , It was an outstanding performance
