Cinemalaya 2015: Broadening Horizons

Independent film is described as a movie made by a not so famous director outside of the conventional studio system.

It doesn’t have big budgets and the stars being featured are mostly those who usually act on stage.

Some indie filmmakers even introduce those who never really have any acting experience at all.

Cinemalaya is the leading independent film festival in the country.

I did a Cinemalaya movie marathon last Sunday, August 9.  I watched a total of  5 short films and 3 full length movies.

For the past 5 years. I have enjoyed watching films featured on Cinemalaya festival at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. What I like most about the films is its authentic way of storytelling.

I was able to watch numerous Filipino indie movies which made a mark in defining the cinema culture of the typical Pinoy.

They often contain revolutionary subject matter intended for sophisticated audiences. I guess they are not necessarily produced with commercial success as the goal.

These are the movies I watched:
12:45 PM :
  • MANSYON
  • ORASYON
  • ROLYO
  • ANDONG
  • BONSAI
 3:30 PM - PEPOT ARTISTA

6:15 PM – TULAD NG DATI

 9:00 PM – VIOLATOR
