On Celebrting Saint Patricks's Day

The are some people who ask why do we celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

What is the history of St Patrick's Day?
Saint Patrick is known as Ireland's patron saint. He was not born Irish, but actually has become an important part of the Irish heritage and that was because of his service across Ireland in the 5th century.

St Patrick's Day is a celebration of Irish culture done globally on or around March 17. It particularly remembers St Patrick who ministered Christianity in Ireland during the fifth century.

Why do you pinch someone on St Patrick's Day?
St. Patrick's revelers believed that wearing green made one invisible to leprechauns, the fairy creatures who would pinch anyone they could see who are not wearing green. People began pinching those who didn't wear green as a reminder that leprechauns would sneak up and pinch green-abstainers.

  • Why do you have to wear green on St Patrick's Day?
  • On St Patrick's Day it is customary to wear shamrocks and/or green clothing or accessories. St Patrick is said to have used the shamrock, a three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to the pagan Irish.

On Hitting Sports Bar and a Speakeasy Bar in Just One Time

If you're looking for a cool drinking place to chill, head on to Carlos Palanca Street in Legaspi Village, Makati.

That street is packed with great bars and one of them is Belle & Dragon.

The Belle & Dragon offers a good selection of beer, some signature drinks and bar chows. The space is large enough and with high ceiling moreover, it has an awesome wooden interiors. Another plus factor is its wide HD TV which is definitely perfect for watching sports event. My good old friend of mine went there just to grab a beer, relax and unwind.

We ordered 2 pints of Stella Artois and just stayed outside at the terrace area. By the time we gulped down with our beer, we went inside and saw some peeps partying/dancing while chatting however shouting/screaming at each other so they can understand each other. Not a good sight to see. We headed to the men's restroom to pee.

Very noticeable on the restroom area was a grand door with intricate design. Out of curiosity I opened it and found out that it was actually designed like a wardrobe and there really were some clothes hanging like the one in the movie "Narnia".

I was thrilled because when I entered the wardrobe it felt like I was sent back in time because of the bar's classic 20's feel.

Immediately, I was transported to another bar. The hidden/speakeasy bar called Mandalay Whiskey and Cigar. I was greeted by 2 Chinese Guardian Lion sculptures.

My friend and I stepped inside and chose to stay at the bar area instead of sitting at leather couches.

We ordered whiskey sour and Monte Cristo cigar. Mandalay is a dim lit cellar/cigar room with leather couches and extensive list of whiskey. I would say that it is a great place to have a good conversation with friends.

Another great thing about the bar is you can order a bottle of whiskey of your choice, have it personalized and you can keep it in their cellar for 2 to 3 months and just get back when you feel like it.

On Doing Bar Hopping with a Good Old Friend

Two years ago, I bumped into 2 guys in Boracay , one was Malaysian and the other was a Taiwanese. We instantly liked each others because we all enjoy the nightlife --drinking and clubbing plus the good vibes. We had a great time at a certain old but still famous bar in the island called  "Cocomangas" .

We all became so busy when we got back to the city. We planned on meeting again at the metro and grab some beers  but it didn't happen for the last 2 years.

We kept in touch through social media and yesterday was the perfect date that we finally met again. Too bad, the Taiwanese guy was not in town.

Joshua, the Malaysian guy and I bonded over doing these:

We first had a beergarita at Periri Peri Charcoal Chicken Greenbelt 3, had a bottle of San Miguel Beer Dry at Dillinger's 1903, Greenbelt 3, munched on pizza and Charlie Chan pasta at Yellow Cab Greenbelt 1, watched the movie LOGAN at Greenbelt 3 Movie House,
drank Stella Artois at The Belle & Dragon, had a shot of whiskey sour and smoked Monte Cristo cigar at Mandalay Whisky, and ended drinking hot Green Tea Latte at Starbucks Reposo.

It was one hell of a good time and we  hope that next time, Mars, the Taiwanese guy will be able to join us for a cool and awesome get together.
